KindredRPG Frequently Asked Questions
Our actual game started around December 18, 1996. We used the time between December 4 - 18 to get to know each other better, to develop characters, and set up the rules that we wish to play by.
The Web site contains a FAQ (this page), Character Lists, Player Listing, Backgrounds, Timeline, and links to Clan pages.
Some rules that are set in stone based on experiences from other games and lists.
- Age Requirements:
Everyone here must be at least 18 or have verifiable parental permission.
- Setting:
The game is set in San Francisco and the surrounding area including the fictional Manzanita Springs. The game is based on the show Kindred:The Embraced and played under the rules of Vampire: the Masquerade and Worlds of Darkness as designed by White Wolf. The rules can be modified as long as everyone agrees: i.e., our characters can go out in daylight for a reasonable amount of time after feeding on Vitae. The events of the Game began immediately after "Cabin in the Woods".
- Characters:
- No Show character can be killed once the game is started without a majority vote on the list of 3/4 of all players. If you leave the list, the show character stays; they can be transferred.
- You can't kill someone else's character without their permission. But you can create fodder characters whose sole purpose is to die (NPC-3).
- All kinds of Vampires are welcome as longs as they are played under the World of Darkness and list rules. You can play Nick Knight as long as he knows: No creating new vampires, No killing prey and the protection of the Masquerade is paramount. Other shows' characters are welcome, but new characters are better because they don't carry show baggage.
- There is a mini-FAQ on creating new characters.
- The Traditions:
The Traditions of Vampire: the Masquerade are followed. If you break the Masquerade your character will be punished. So if you are playing an Anarch or Sabbat character, blood hunts and such go with the territory. The Conclave can call a Blood Hunt but you as a player are given a chance to get your character out of the game without the character being killed. In other words, if you break the rules of the Masquerade you will be punished accordingly.
There are exceptions: Frank Kohanek as long as the Prince says he's allowed to know he can. You can play a WoD character like a Hunter or Mage if WoD mentions that there is interaction with or they know of Vampires. Other than that, you must embrace them or make them forget.
- Disputes:
If you have a problem with a story line or how your character was treated, please contact the other person via private messages. If you need a neutral third party then ask someone on the list. Try to resolve it between yourselves before bring it to the list's attention. That way no one is publicly embarrassed.
- Posting:
- As long as no significant events have happened you can recall a post or action. This is due to the fact we all post at different times, some all through the day, some only at set times. This is also for those whose Email systems tend to act up.
- Be sure to real ALL of the current posts before responding. Make sure of what is happening before you respond, read all of each post you are responding to.
- Please edit your posts when responding. Leave just enough to show what you are responding to.
- New Players:
Enter based on the recommendation of a player and the list's approval. We recommend that you know the person and think they would be interested in this kind of game. They need to lurk for a bit to get an idea of the game and if they really want to play. It also gives them time to get a feel for the players and for us to get to know them. Lurk does not mean sitting there just reading things, but asking questions, too. We also meet on IRC. This is a good place to get to know the other players.
- Time Span:
One week is one day game time. This means we have to all be realistic on what can be done in that time. Parties and holidays depend on how much people post and when (they can last up to two weeks themselves).
- Graphicness:
The romantic posts get serious because there *is* romance here. There is violence, too. The posts can get very graphic, as long as it is tastefully done. No XXX rated stuff.
And the Last Rule Set in stone:
This is a game so things happen that you can't predict. So don't get upset if someone intrudes on a plotline or if things are not going as planned, ‘Go with the Flow', you will be sanier for it. Do not leak information if you do not want it acted upon until after it happens.
