Frank was born in Chicago Illinois. His mother died from cancer when he was only 7. Frank was raised by his father and grandmother. His father was a detective in the city and his job kept him away from home a lot. Frank spent most of his time with his grandmother at her home about 30 minutes away from the city. This is where he met Sara who would eventually become his wife.

Sara and Frank met when they were both kids and her parents lived next door to his grandmother. Sara was always quiet and never said anything to Frank. That is until the he broke her window with a baseball and she helped cover for him. After that Frank and Sara became best friends. Frank always suspected that Sara mother abused her both mentally and physically but could never get her to admit it. After Frank got out of the police academy he proposed to Sara and they were soon married. They headed West to San Francisco where Frank could become a cop and not have to stand in his father's shadow.

After 4 years on the force and a good record Frank was getting a promotion to detective. He also found out he was going to be a father. Things turned bad suddenly 5 months into the pregnancy Sara had a miscarriage. Frank tried to take care of Sara after the miscarriage but she just shut him out. The only escape Frank could find from his pain was his work as a detective. Seven months later Frank was coming home from his shift when he heard the news of a suicide at his apartment complex. He raced home only to find the coroner putting his wife in a body bag. Sara had jumped from their third story apartment window. In the note she blamed herself for the loss of her child and her husband.

Frank put their apartment up for sale and switched to the night shift. It was easier to deal with the pain during the day then the loneliness at night. Frank was soon partnered with Sonny Toussaint another member of the night shift. They were a good team with an outstanding record for solved cases. It was during this time that Frank decided to go after the mob and Julian Luna. Frank was investigating Luna's possible involvement into the mob when he met Alexandra. Frank figured that Alexandra would be willing to talk because Luna jilted her for another woman. The first time he questioned Alexandra she refused to tell him anything about Julian warning him to stay away. But Frank and Alexandra couldn't stay away from each other and they soon fell in love. As Frank got more involved with Alexandra he became obsessed with the idea of freeing her from Julian. Alexandra exposed the Masquerade to Frank and was condemned to death. Before she died she made Julian promise to protect Frank's life. Now the only thing keeping Frank alive is a promise Julian made to Alexandra.
